Book 2 - Beginning Blues Piano / Rock 'n' Roll

Believe it or not you can start playing Blues Piano right away with just a few chords and rhythms - and you'll sound JUST LIKE THE REAL THING! This book teaches the ESSENTIAL underlying rhythms and patterns that will enable you to tackle the more advanced Blues techniques in Book 7

Rhythm 1 - Basic Triad Blues

You gotta learn to walk before you can run so to get you started you'll learn an easy left hand rhythm that uses the three notes of the basic piano chord. This will help build those early Blues muscles!

Rhythm 2 - Straight Eight Boogie

How can something this easy sound so good! You will recognise this Jerry Lee Lewis style Rock 'n' Roll piano rhythm instantly but won't believe it's you that's playing it.

Once you learn this rhythm you can play so many blues songs:
All Shook up / Blue Suede Shoes / Hound Dog / Lucille / Roll Over Beethoven / Tutti Frutti / Crazy Little Thing Called Love / Dizzy Miss Lizzy / Good Golly Miss Molly / Great Balls Of Fire / Jailhouse Rock / Johhny B. Good / Long Tall Sally / Roll Over Beethoven / Teddy Bear / That's Alright Mama / Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On and many others.

Two versions of the rhythm and a complete 12 bar Straight Eight Boogie practice tune. You'll also learn how to work out a 12 Bar Blues in ANY key.

Rhythm 3 - Blueberry Hill

The name of this blues piano rhythm says it all. This is a classic 'New Orleans' style rhythm. It sounds awesome and you won't believe how easy it is to play. And once you've learnt it you will be able to play the Classic Blueberry Hill and songs like Oh Darling (The Beatles)

Rhythm 4 - 12/8 Boogie Shuffle

This is a very slow - laid back blues piano rhythm that takes a while to master but never leaves you once you get it. It is a great beginning rhythm to improvise Blues lines with later on.

This rhythm is used for songs like:
Get Back / Be Bop A Lula / Ain't That A Shame / Honky Tonk Woman / No Particular Place To Go / Got A Woman Mean As She Can Be / The Wanderer / I'm Walkin' (Fat's Domino) / Brand New Leopardskin Pillbox Hat (Dylan) / Meet Me In The Mornin' (Dylan) / For You Blue (Bealtles) / Been Down So Long (Sting) / Cars Hiss By My Window (Doors) and so on.

Rhythm 5 - Blues Brothers

You'll know it when you play it. This is just a great, fun rhythm that introduces you to a very often used trick in Blues and Gospel piano playing.
